A biennial international festival of photography lasting a full month to showcase the work of photographers, to generate an awareness of and a discussion about their work, and to create a forum for the exploration of ideas and issues relating to the practice and art of photography.

The festival has a range of events that are free to the general public and a number of paid events of more interest to photography devotees, both amateur and professional.

Most of the activities involving visiting photographers and guest speakers do occur during the first ten days.
